 Addo Elephant National Park is situated 72km by road from Port Elizabeth. Established in 1931 to save 11 Elephants on the brink of extinction, and now home to more than 350 of them, 280 Cape Buffalo, black Rhino, a range of Antelope species, as well as the rare flightless dung Beetle, Addo Elephant Park is a perfect destination for the adventurous outdoor and nature lover.

Addo Elephant Park, a sanctuary for a wide range of South Africa's Wildlife, is located in the 120 000 ha of land in the thick bushveld of the Sundays River, in the Eastern Cape.

The park, the third largest in South Africa, offers a wide range of game viewing and outdoor activities, which include horse-back and horse-riding, guided walking, hiking and 4x4 trails and a picnic area for day visitors. Nothing could be better if you are a bush lover.

Addo Elephant National Park Activities

 Several historic sites can be found in the area which date back as far as 1829. The most well known site is the Drift House, the Inn used by most people crossing the Addo drift from the old Cape Colony into the Hinterland.

Addo Elephant Park offers you an array of activities from game viewing, horse-riding, picnic to hiking. Resident guests can enjoy a cool and refreshing swim at the swimming pool. But nothing could be better than taking part in the Park's wide selection of adventurous Activities, which include witnessing some of the Park's main attractions: the Elephants, Black Rhinoceros, Cape Buffalo (disease free), Suricate (Meerkat), Flightless Dung Beetle.

Addo Elephant National Park Gate Time

Day visitors
    No booking is required for a day visit, unless the visitor wants to partake in organised activities.
    Day visitors can make use of a wide variety of activities, including wildlife viewing from their own vehicle, guided game drives, horse rides, hiking trails, the bird hide, the PPC Discovery Trail, picnic and braai sites, the shop and restaurant.

    Day trips can be made to the outlying sections of the park - the Zuurberg Mountains, Kabouga, Darlington Dam and Woody Cape.

Addo Elephant National Park Gate Times

    Main camp reception is open from 07:00 to 19:00 daily

    Matyholweni reception is open from 07:00 to 17:00 daily, while the gate is open until 18:30.

The gates are staffed by security guards after closing time. Visitors with accommodation bookings can still enter and exit the gate after closing times provided they inform reception of this.

Check-in and check-out times
    Check in time is 14:00 for all accommodation.

    Check out time is 10:00 for all accommodation units. Check out time for caravan and tent sites is 12:00.
